When we install tents on asphalt, we can secure them with concrete weights or by driving stakes into the asphalt. Most customers choose to have us drive stakes into the blacktop because it’s more economical, faster and more secure.
After we remove the stakes, we repair the holes by filling them with crushed stone and topping off the hole with asphalt cold patch. Then we tamp it down with a sledgehammer.
This creates a durable patch that is barely noticeable. Over time, it fades and becomes even less noticeable. Often when we come back a year later to install a tent at the same location, it’s difficult for us to find the holes to reuse them.

What to expect on delivery day

What should you expect on your tent delivery day?
It starts a few days before your delivery when you receive an email or a call from one of our schedulers notifying you of the time that we will be arriving to deliver your tent. Please confirm promptly so that we can proceed with planning all our deliveries for that day.
Normally, our crew will load their trucks a day or two before your delivery. So, if you have any changes to your order, please let us know as far ahead as possible.
To prepare for our arrival, please have the area where the tent will be installed cleared of any obstructions. If you need to mow the yard, please do that before our arrival as lawn mowers and tent crews do not mingle well! Our crew will do their best to arrive within the scheduled time range. However, weather, traffic and other unforeseen circumstances can change the schedule. Usually, our crew will arrive in a pickup truck and trailer for delivery. The crew leader will meet with you to find out exactly where the tent will be placed. He will work with you to find the best possible location for the tent. Unless you’ve already made other arrangements, he will also collect payment on arrival.
In order to speed up the delivery process, we like to park our trucks as close as possible to the tent installation spot. Our crews work quickly and efficiently. So, your tent should be installed as quickly as one hour. If it’s very large, it may take several hours.
After the tent is installed, we’ll need to know if you want us to install side walls on the tent. In most cases, we recommend leaving the tent as open as possible for fresh air and breezes. If you decide to leave the sides open, we can leave the walls onsite so that you can put them on later if the weather changes.
If you’ve rented additional accessories such as lighting, flooring, or power, we will install those things next. Tables, chairs and linens are the only items that do not include installation and removal in the rental cost. So, unless you’ve specified that you want us to set them up and re-stack them, we’ll stack those items inside the tent. Please have them stacked again when we come to pick up the tent, since we may not have time to go on a scavenger hunt just then. We look forward to serving you.

Top 4 tent styles that work best for different types of events
It’s easy to be confused by the different types of tents: frame tents, clearspan tents, pole tents, sailcloth tents. Which one do I need? What’s the difference and why does it matter? Let me break it down for you.
It’s easy to be confused by the different types of tents: frame tents, clearspan tents, pole tents, sailcloth tents. Which one do I need? What’s the difference and why does it matter? Let me break it down for you.
Frame tents have an aluminum skeleton that makes the tent rigid. They offer some unique advantages over pole tents. Sometimes, tents must be secured with weights instead of driving stakes into the ground. In locations where a driveway cannot be penetrated or where underground utilities make it unsafe to drive stakes, a frame tent with weights is the perfect solution. Frame tents are much more flexible in the ways that they can be secured. They can be installed on a deck, patio or even the rooftop of a building. Frame tents have other advantages as well. They have no interior poles. This is great for construction projects where machinery must work inside the tent or events where poles would obstruct the flow of people.
Clearspan tents also have an aluminum structure and have all the benefits of a frame tent. However, clearspans can be much larger than a frame tent (over 100’ wide). The tent fabric slides in tracks on the aluminum beams, making them very tight. They are excellent for winter use or long-term installations. Clearspan tents also work well as weather protection for a stage at a graduation ceremony or other outdoor event with a large audience. Lighting and speakers can be hung from the aluminum beams of the tent. The front of the stage can be completely unobstructed by tent poles. Clearspans can be raised to a taller height to cover a stage or to allow machinery to enter the tent. Some people prefer the more modern, "Euro" appearance of a clearspan tent.
Pole tents, also known as tension structures, are an evolution of the earliest type of tents. The forerunners to our modern pole tents were the big top circus tents of the past. They have tall, graceful peaks and airy spacious interiors. Their structure comes from the fabric itself. Thus, they can be installed quickly with no need for beams to support them. Many of today's pole tents are engineered to withstand up to 70 mph sustained winds and 90 mph gusts. Pole tents are the most economical type of tent that we offer. They are great for weddings, backyard parties and other events of all kinds. Many people prefer this style over the more traditional square frame or clearspan tent appearance. They can be installed on nearly any surface where stakes can be driven into the ground. They are our most popular type of tent.
Sailcloth tents are a type of pole tent that is very popular for weddings. They have the tall graceful peaks of a pole tent with a few extras to make them special. Inspired by sails on sailboats, they’re light and airy. They allow lots of natural light to flood the tent and they glow with light at night. Their whimsical rounded shape creates a great canvas for all types of decoration. Their elegant minimalist design lets you enjoy the great outdoors while providing walls to protect you in case of rain. White pennant flags waving from the peaks add to the charm.
Still not sure which type of tent you'll need? Our customer reps will be happy to help you find the best solution for your event. Whatever type of tent you choose, rest assured that Tents For Rent will provide you with a quality tent and excellent service to make your event successful.
Should I close the tent walls? Video
Today we’ll be talking about tent sidewalls. During the tent installation, one of the questions we’ll ask is whether you’d like us to enclose the tent walls or leave them open. If at all possible, it’s best to keep the walls open
Today we’ll be talking about tent sidewalls. During the tent installation, one of the questions we’ll ask is whether you’d like us to enclose the tent walls or leave them open.
Here are my recommendations. If the weather is warm, keeping most of the walls open is the best idea. It will allow more airflow to keep the guests cooler. If rain is in the forecast, it’s a good idea to close only the side that the wind will be coming from. Even if cool or rainy weather is in the forecast, I recommend leaving at least one side of the tent open. The reason for this is that a tent that is totally enclosed can become very damp. Condensation can form on the tent and it can actually rain inside the tent. Of course, if it’s very cold or there are heaters in the tent, it’s best to enclose everything except the entrance
Even if you decide to leave some of the tent sides open, we can leave the extra walls onsite to close later if necessary. Below is a video with instructions on closing the walls. We hope you enjoy your outdoor celebration.
Why Tesla is building new cars in a tent

Numerous sources are reporting that Tesla is now manufacturing it's latest Model 3 electric cars in a huge tent. You may wonder why. Having provided tents for numerous companies, I can tell you that a tent is a great way to add capacity. Building a new facility can take months or years for the planning, permitting and construction to be complete. Tesla applied for a permit on June 7 and was manufacturing cars three weeks later. That is an incredible feat that would not be possible with a traditional building
Many other companies have also used tents for storage, manufacturing or additional capacity for unexpected orders, during construction or remodeling, for disaster response and much more. Do you need a temporary warehouse, factory or retail facility? Contact us today.

Winter Storage Tents
Tents can be used for a wide range of different types of events, but temporary storage is not a use for a tent that most people think of. However, with winter approaching, keeping your equipment warm, safe and dry can be important. Our industrial tents are great for temporary warehousing, construction projects, manufacturing and much more.

Staking or weighting a tent on asphalt?

When you're installing a tent on asphalt, you have two options:
- Drive stakes into the asphalt.
- Secure the tent with concrete weights.
Let's explore each option. Driving stakes into the asphalt is what most of our customers choose. It's economical, secure, fast and easy. We only need to drill holes about one inch in diameter. After we're finished, we fill the holes with crushed stone and patch the surface with actual asphalt. When we are finished, the holes are barely noticeable.
Installing the tent with weights is a better option if there so many underground utilities that there is no place to safely drive stakes. Weighting the tent can also be necessary if drilling holes through the asphalt is not allowed. Safely weighting a tent is usually about three times the cost of a normal staked pole tent. There are several reasons for this:
- Weighted tents must be frame tents which are more expensive and more labor intensive to install than standard pole tents.
- In order to safely secure a tent with weights, there must be thousands of pounds of weight delivered, handled and pick up from the job site.

Is it cheaper to buy a tent or rent one?
I often get the question, "Could I save money by buying a tent instead of renting it?" There isn't one clear answer to this question, but here are some things to keep in mind as you make that decision:
I often get the question, "Could I save money by buying a tent instead of renting it?" There isn't one clear answer to this question, but here are some things to keep in mind as you make that decision:
It's better to rent a tent if:
You only use it a few times a year
You only use it for a short period of time
You're looking for a hassle-free experience
It's sometimes more affordable to buy a tent if:
You want to keep it up for a long period of time
You use it many times per year
You do not need a tent that is in good condition. An older tent is less expensive than a new or nearly new one
However, there are many hidden costs of owning a tent:
Labor for installation, removal and transportation
Storage of the tent while you're not using it
Washing the tent when it gets dirty
Repairing the tent
Replacing the tent when it wears out
Liability for storm damage to the tent
All these things come at no extra cost when you rent a tent. A very large majority of our customers choose to rent a tent. However, there are some special situations when purchasing a tent is the best option. Whether you choose to buy a tent or rent it, contact us today and we'll work with you to find the best tent for your event.

Can tents be installed on asphalt or concrete?
Tents can be installed nearly anywhere including concrete and asphalt.

Tents can be installed nearly anywhere including concrete and asphalt. There are two ways to do this. The most popular options is drilling holes into the asphalt and repairing them after the tent is removed. Staking in asphalt is the most economical way to secure a tent. This is done by drilling a hole that's about one inch in diameter and driving a stake into the hole. After the stake is removed, we fill the hole with crushed stone and top it off with asphalt. We tamp down the asphalt and it's almost as good as new.

Alternately, we can install a frame tent with weights and not puncture the asphalt at all. It's also a good way to avoid damaging underground utilities. Tents are secured to very heavy concrete weights. Below is a picture of a weighted tent.

What is the difference between a frame tent and a pole tent?
This article is part of a series of posts with further explanation on many of our frequently asked questions.
Many people wonder what the difference is between a frame tent and a pole tent. This article will be a bit more technical than most. So, I'll do my best to make it easy to understand.
Pole tents, also known as tension structures are an evolution of the earliest type of tents. The forerunners to modern pole tents were the big top circus tents of the past. They have one or more high peaks in the center. Their structure comes from the fabric itself. They can be installed quickly with no need for beams to support them. Many of today's pole tents are engineered to withstand up to 70 mph sustained winds and 90 mph gusts. Pole tents are the most economical type of tent that we offer. They are great for weddings, backyard parties and other events of all kinds. They have tall, graceful peaks and airy spacious interiors. Many people prefer this style over the more traditional square frame tent appearance. They can be installed on nearly any surface where stakes can be driven into the ground.
While pole tents fill the needs of most of our customers, there are some situations where only a frame tent will fit the bill. Frame tents, also known as clearspan structures or clearspan tents offer some unique advantages. Sometimes, tents must be secured with weights instead of driving stakes into the ground. In locations where a driveway cannot be penetrated or where underground utilities make it unsafe to drive stakes, a frame tent with weights is the perfect solution. Frame tents are much more flexible in the ways that they can secured. They can be installed on a deck, patio or even the rooftop of a building. Frame tents have other advantages as well. They have no interior poles. This is great for construction projects where machinery must work inside the tent or events where poles would obstruct the flow of people. Keep Your Construction Project on Schedule Even During the Winter
When I think of a tent event, I think a beautiful spring day. The sun is setting and a soft breeze is blowing as a couple exchanges their vows. However, this certainly isn't the case for every tent event. In January 2014, ARCO Design/Build and Stief Concrete were working on a construction project that was running behind schedule because the cold weather was delaying the pouring of the concrete walls. Stief Concrete looked to Tents For Rent to supply tents, heaters, power and lighting to allow the construction project to move forward in spite of the unusually cold weather.
The site presented some unique challenges. Parts of the tents could not be secured with traditional stakes. Instead, they needed to be secured with concrete anchors that could penetrate only 5 inches into the concrete. Yet, they had to be able to hold the tents in place safely and securely. Also, during this time there was a severe propane shortage that increased prices and made propane difficult to find at any price. We kept a crew onsite during days that concrete was being poured in order to open and close the tent walls to give access to the work crews. In addition, tents needed to be moved frequently as the project moved forward. Frequent changes in the weather and schedule required us to be flexible to keep everything moving forward smoothly.
All in all the project is moving forward smoothly and the tents are allowing this project to be completed much more quickly than otherwise possible.
